A Wide Range of Self Aligning Bearings Available

The most common type of roller bearing is a ball bearing that has a single raceway groove on both the inner and the outer ring. A self aligning bearing, however, has two raceways on an inner ring and a single spherical raceway on the outer ring. For the latter, the centre of curvature coincides with the bearing axis. This means that the axis of the inner ring plus the balls and cage deflect around the centre of the bearing so that any misalignment is corrected automatically. Read More

At Industrial & Automotive Parts, we’re a major supplier of all kinds of components and parts to various types of industries. That includes all types of bearings such as roller bearings, needle roller bearing and self aligning bearing, in a wide range of sizes and variations. Whatever kind you need, therefore, you can be sure we have it and will be able to supply it quickly, so work isn’t interrupted.

When You Should Use a Self-Aligning Roller Bearing

It’s generally recommended that you use self aligning roller bearings when the shaft and housing alignments are difficult or if the shaft is likely to bend during operation. Any misalignment may be due to machining errors when making the housing or shaft or may be caused by incorrect installation.

This type of bearing is commonly used for cranes, elevators and track and guidance systems as well as in agricultural machinery, transport and rail systems. Its versatility and popularity are partly due to the bearing running with reduced friction and at lower temperatures, resulting in less noise and wear, lower levels of stress on lubricants and bearing cages, and a longer service life as a result.

These self aligning roller bearings are available for general use and normally in applications with a light axial load due to low axial capacity. They can often be used in place of standard ball bearing assemblies providing they are compatible in terms of size and general characteristics.

Helping You Choose the Right Self Aligning Bearing

The misalignment between shaft and housing can be accommodated either outside the bearing or internally between rollers and raceways. We can provide all types of self-aligning bearings, including cylindrical roller bearing, toroidal roller and thrust bearings as well as ball bearings. We also have rubber-sealed versions that are particularly useful in harsh environments because they protect the bearing from dirt and moisture but with a more limited self alignment. Some of our bearings are particularly suitable for harsh environments because they are self-lubricating, resistant to corrosion and have additional clearance to allow for expansion so work perfectly in high temperatures and at high speeds.

We can provide self aligning roller bearings in small and large quantities as well as other components for your machinery.
